The Brookings County Pandemic Planning Coordination Committee (PPCC) will distribute 1,000 free doses of pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine on Monday.
According to a news release from PPCC, the commission will hold a free walk-in pertussis and influenza community vaccination center at Brookings High School from 4 to 8 p.m.
Vaccines are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The South Dakota Department of Health has notified the Brookings County PPCC that it will receive 1,000 Tdap vaccines to distribute to Brookings County residents ages 11 and older. According to the announcement, the vaccine protects against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough.
All adults must have a valid ID or driver’s license. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Adults 18 and older will also receive 500 free flu vaccines. A valid ID or driver’s license is also required for the flu shot.
The Brookings County PPCC says children under the age of 10 should visit their health care provider to receive the whooping cough vaccine. It also says children under 18 should visit their health care provider or local pharmacy to get a flu shot.
