Commanders fans, how closely have you looked at the NFL standings?

Yes, all of us at the DMV are aware that the Commanders (6-2) have a 1/2 game lead over the Eagles (5-2). Additionally, everyone understands that this lead is simply because Washington has played one more game thus far than Philadelphia.

However, it is better to focus on the NFC standings. There, Washington looks only behind the Detroit Lions (6-1). The Lions aren’t just winning. They were impressive in their wins.

Once the top seven teams in the AFC and NFC qualify for the playoffs, the winners of the four divisions will be seeded 1-4, followed by the three wild card teams seeded 5-7.

Washington is currently the second-seeded NFC team. The other division leaders are the Falcons (3rd seed) and Cardinals (4th seed). Currently, the three wild cards are the Packers (5th seed), Vikings (6th seed), and Eagles (7th seed).

Yes, that means if the season ends this way, the Commanders will host a playoff game at Northwest Stadium the first weekend and their opponent will be the Eagles.

Of course, Washington has to play five of the six divisional games. The Eagles have been really strong the last two weeks, haven’t they? They also have to play against the Steelers and Falcons, who are currently playoff teams.

Washington has nine games left in the regular season, so the remaining two months of the season are packed with events. What should I focus on now?

New York Giants.

Nothing else. A team can’t just jump ahead and think it’s going to be the No. 2 seed.

I can’t even indulge in the “Celebration of the Virgin Mary.” They spent Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday celebrating it. They have to move forward and focus on each opponent. Otherwise, you will end up losing more matches than necessary.

Who would have thought we would be talking like this after eight games?
