Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key reiterated that quarterback Haynes King’s condition remains day-to-day and that the Yellow Jackets star could be available against the Hokies.
“Okay, so Haynes is still living hand-to-mouth, okay? Mike told me before I got here that someone had some kind of information that said he wasn’t playing. There was one person in there. Yes, he prepares to eliminate him every day. ? No, I heard it from the horse’s mouth over there. ”
In today’s media release, Key said of King:
“And Haynes, if we’re going to play right now, that’s good enough. I’m still going to keep him day-to-day, but I would say I’m hopeful that he’ll be available. But those things. I’m improving every day, but I’m doubtful it will happen right now, but I’m still hopeful. I’m also confident in the other players.”
If King plays, the Hokies will be in a much worse position than backup quarterback Zach Pyron. Virginia Tech is playing three backup quarterbacks this year, and the Hokies will have a much better game against the Pylons.
Antoine Powell-Ryland had a monster year in the pass rush, tying him with San Diego State’s Trey White to lead the FBS in sacks. He had four sacks against Boston College, four sacks against Boston College, and also had sacks against Vanderbilt, Miami and Rutgers. The main criticism of Antwaun’s big year was the level of offensive line he faced. In terms of sack rate, Stanford ranks 132nd in the nation, Boston College ranks 125th, and Old Dominion ranks 117th.
Antoine Powell-Ryland had no sacks or tackles against Stanford. The two games in which Powell vs. Ryland recorded a ton of sacks were against two offensive lines that rank in the bottom 50 in sack frequency. He’s never played against a team like Georgia Tech. The best offensive line he played against all year was Marshall’s. He did not record a sack against Marshall. The Yellow Jackets allow sacks at less than half the rate of the Thundering Herd.
Beishul Tuten was one of the best players on the Hokies team all year. Last week, he ran for 266 yards against Boston College and will face Georgia Tech, whose run defense is much improved from last year. Tuten could have a big game, but the Hokies may try to pass the ball more against the Jackets.
