Saud Anwar is no stranger to coaching.

He is a physician specializing in pulmonary and emergency medicine and serves as Chief of Internal Medicine at Manchester Memorial Hospital and Rockville General Hospital, part of the Eastern Connecticut Health Network (ECHN).

He is a former mayor and served twice as mayor of South Windsor, from 2013 to 2015 and from 2017 to 2019.

He currently serves in the state senate representing South Windsor, East Hartford, East Windsor and Ellington. He also co-chairs the Congressional Public Health Committee.

Mr. Anwar is seeking re-election to the state Senate this year.

Earlier this year, he joined a group of lawmakers and ECHN medical staff to urge Prospect Medical Holdings, which owns two ECHN hospitals and Waterbury Hospital, to complete the sale of the three hospitals to Yale New Haven Health. . The deal is currently on hold due to a lawsuit filed by both sides over financial terms.

Mr Anwar said the three hospitals were in a “dire financial situation” and any delay in reaching an agreement could impact patient safety and welfare.

He also spoke out about the development of artificial intelligence and its potential applications in healthcare, arguing that it has the potential to revolutionize patient care.

“My hope is that we can make Connecticut a center for health care and artificial intelligence in the United States and abroad,” he said earlier this year, adding that the state needs to ensure it has policies in place to make that happen.
