Significant Professional Accomplishments: I consider my past work as a member of the leadership team and current CEO of Community Care Partnership of Maine to be my most significant professional accomplishments. For his role in expanding CCPM into a statewide accountable care organization that integrates more than 20 not-for-profit health care organizations, including federally qualified medical centers and community hospitals, and serves approximately 250,000 patients annually. is a matter of great pride.
Our mission-focused model ensures equal representation of all member organizations. Through this approach, CCPM has successfully achieved more than $60 million in Medicare savings and developed a network that works to improve patient care and community health outcomes.
Current state of mind: Cautiously optimistic, with a constant sense of crisis. I am inspired by the dedicated work of my colleagues in the medical field and energized by the growing focus on patient-centered, values-based care.
But I remain acutely aware of the significant challenges we face, including outdated reimbursement models, workforce instability, and unequal access to health care. I am grateful to work with supportive leaders who seek and support solutions to these challenges.
Passion project: I enjoy working with my husband Jason to renovate and design homes. Transforming a space and breathing new life into it is incredibly satisfying, and I love the challenge of imagining how real estate can evolve.
We recently had the opportunity to purchase and renovate a camp that my grandparents built in the 1960s. It was a great way to honor our family’s past while creating something new and beautiful.
“Lightbulb” moment: It was a gradual turning on of a light, sparked by a childhood immersed in medicine and community service. As a child, I often spent Saturday mornings hanging out at the nursing station at the local hospital while my father patrolled and nursed patients.
My parents chose to raise us in a small rural town that needed a family doctor, just as my grandfather had done. I saw firsthand that family physicians like my father and grandfather can have a huge impact on a small community. Their unwavering dedication to improving the lives of patients and serving their communities ignited my desire to make a similar difference.
I entered law school with the intention of becoming a juvenile defense attorney, influenced by my experience working in homeless youth shelters across the state. But during my first medical law class and during my residency at the Maine State Medical Association, I realized I could combine my legal skills with my deep-rooted passion for medicine. My career path is now clear. It’s about using my legal expertise and passion to drive positive change in healthcare and contributing even just a small part of the change that my father and grandfather brought to their communities.
Audacious goal: I want to deliver an impactful TED talk someday.
