The San Francisco 49ers have announced their inactive list for Week 4 against the New England Patriots. Safety Talanoa Hufanga was listed as questionable after twisting his ankle in practice.
The writing on the wall said Hufanga would be inactive Saturday as the Niners pulled the safety from the practice squad. As expected, Hufanga will not play today. Here is the Niners inactive list:
S Talanoa Hufanga (ankle)
WR Ronnie Bell
CB Darrell Rooter
OL Ben Birch
QB Joshua Cobbs (3rd QB)
Although it has not yet been announced, Malik Mustafa will make his first career start. He played more snaps than George Odum and brought enough energy, effort, and tackling ability to make you think the Niners were favoring Mustafa over Odum.
Barring multiple injuries after his Week 3 performance, there’s no telling if Bell will be back in action before the end of the year. It helps that Deebo Samuel is active. His workload should increase even more today. Will we see Jacob Cowing on the field offensively? We haven’t finished three games yet.
On Friday, head coach Kyle Shanahan said he wants the 49ers to be active in their screen game because of the lack of it this year. It felt like Shanahan was talking about how he wanted to involve Devo.
In addition to Devo, George Kittle and Trent Williams are also active. Offensively, the 49ers have been close to full strength all year.
