On Saturday, Stanford lost at home to Virginia Tech by a final score of 31-7. Below are my five thoughts.
Summary: Stanford loses to Virginia Tech.
#1. Elijah Brown’s time can’t come soon enough. Regardless of who starts at quarterback between Justin Lamson and Ashton Daniels, it’s clear that Stanford has a quarterback problem. Don’t get me wrong, Daniels is better than Lamson. I think Daniels is more mobile and throws the ball better, but his decision making isn’t great and the offense hasn’t reached its full potential no matter who is at quarterback. It’s obvious.
As for true freshman Elijah Brown, it’s clear from the limited sample we’ve seen of him that he has better decision-making and is an overall better quarterback. He is currently out with a hand and finger injury, which is unfortunate for Stanford. My information is that he could be available later this month, but if I had to guess, Stanford would like to preserve his redshirt. So we may not see him until the final three games of the season. If he is available for these three games, I would be very surprised if Stanford starts him instead of releasing him. If Elijah Brown starts a big game for Berkeley, it will definitely bring a lot of buzz to the rivalry game.
#2.Eric Ayomanor needs help: Wide receiver Eric Ayomanor scored his only touchdown thanks to a touchdown pass from running back Micah Ford, who was his quarterback in high school. What I recorded is very narrative. Ayomanor had three receptions for 33 yards en route to the touchdown. He made the most of the opportunities he got, but without quality quarterback play, it’s difficult for him to make the impact he wants.
#3.Stanford needs more from their tight end. Sam Roush had three receptions for 17 yards, but on the season he had just 12 receptions for 97 yards. Stanford needs to move Roush and get more out of the tight end position in the receiving game.
#4.Stanford is really missing defenseman Jay Green: Stanford safety Jay Green’s absence was very noticeable. He’s a very good slugger in the secondary and has a great feel for the game. Without him, it was clear that the secondary would not be what it was. As for his situation, he has a knee injury and from what I’ve heard he’ll probably be out for the year. It will be difficult to continue without him, but the Cardinals don’t seem to have much choice.
#5.Tiger Bachmeyer is a solid return man: Stanford wide receiver Tiger Bachmeyer has already scored a touchdown on a punt return this season and had two kick returns totaling 57 yards on Saturday. obtained. Bachmeyer didn’t do much on punt returns Saturday, but he’s clearly getting the hang of the return game and a feel for the position. That’s something Stanford has lacked in recent years, but they look like they have someone who can do some damage. It’s just a matter of getting him the blocks he needs.
“Yeah, he’s a fearless guy out there, he doesn’t like fair catches, and he’s going to try to make plays for us,” Stanford head coach Troy Taylor said of Bachmeyer’s return. spoke. “I thought we did a good job of creating space for him there. Usually on punt returns you have to make the first guy miss, and he did a really good job of that.”
