PHOENIX — Maricopa County officials are now spending a total of more than $12 million to build a pipeline of skilled workers across in-demand industries through apprenticeship programs.
That number jumped to that total after the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors recently voted to spend an additional $500,000 to increase the workforce in metro Phoenix.
Supervisor Jack Sellers, current board chairman, said the investment will have a positive ripple effect throughout the county’s economy.
“Additional funding for apprenticeship programs will not only help residents have the opportunity to gain skills for sustainable careers, but it will also help meet the workforce needs of growing industries,” Sellers said. said in a news release Monday.
The apprenticeship program benefiting from the funds has been in place since 2022, and the county has supported 1,703 participants through the program. The overall goal is to help 3,000 Maricopa County residents find apprenticeships by 2026.

By joining the program, you will benefit from training and hands-on experience in a variety of industries that require new workers.
These industries include healthcare, advanced manufacturing, IT, and construction.
Participants receive national industry certifications, resume building, on-the-job training, tuition assistance, and the opportunity to earn money while developing their skills.
Supervisor Thomas Galvin, Vice Chairman of the Board, announced the program.
“The ability to earn a living wage while pursuing a new career is critical to many families struggling financially,” Galvin said in the release. “Providing residents with these opportunities to succeed in the workforce is also beneficial because it strengthens Maricopa County’s industry and benefits the overall economy.”
The additional $500,000 in funding will come from an $871 million change sent to Maricopa County through the American Rescue Plan Act.
