Oleksandr Krupa, head of the pension fund office in Khmelnytsky Oblast, has resigned following a high-profile corruption scandal involving his family, Suspirin sources said.

On October 5, Ukraine’s State Investigation Service (SBI) arrested the director of the Khmelnytsky Regional Medical and Social Expertise Center (MSEC) on charges of illegally obtaining $6 million in illegal profits and a scheme to fraudulently obtain disability status in order to evade military service. did.

The case highlights Ukraine’s increasing efforts to fight corruption in order to promote economic growth, meet EU integration requirements and generally keep pace with Western standards.

According to Suspirin newspaper, Oleksandr Krupa submitted his resignation on October 10th. While the investigation continues, Maria Kwiatkivska has been appointed acting director of the Khmelnitsky Oblast Pension Fund Office.

His financial statements revealed substantial assets, including three apartments, four cars, 25 pieces of land, five houses and two unfinished houses, and four garden (dacha) houses. However, Oleksandr’s 2023 income as head of the pension fund was announced at 657,126 hryvnia ($15,978).

His mother, Tetiana Krupa, is currently in custody, with bail set at more than 500 million hryvnia ($12 million).

During a search of Krupa’s family assets, investigators reportedly found $100,000 in cash, fake medical documents and fictitious diagnoses, along with assets including luxury cars, 30 properties and foreign accounts. He said he discovered a list of “draft evaders.”

Tetiana once tried to get rid of $500,000 by throwing it out the window.

If undeclared assets are proven, it could lead to a 10-year prison sentence and confiscation of assets.

This incident also has political implications. Tetyana Krupa, who was elected to the Khmelnytsky regional parliament as a member of the Servant of the People party, is currently facing a possible recall. The party has begun the process of removing him from office, citing his failure to meet voters’ expectations.
