WASHINGTON, October 3, 2024 — The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced up to $500 million in funding for basic research in support of DOE’s clean energy, economic, and national security goals.

This funding supports the DOE Office of Science and its major programs: Advanced Scientific Computing Research, Basic Energy Sciences, Biological and Environmental Research, Fusion Energy Science, High Energy Physics, Nuclear Physics, Isotope Research Development and Production, and Accelerators. (e.g. research and development) priorities will be promoted. And production.
Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs), informally known as “open calls,” are published annually at the beginning of each fiscal year (FY). This will provide a means for institutions to solicit applications for research support in areas not covered by the more specific and topical NOFO that the Office of Science will issue in FY2025.
Effective October 1, 2024, pursuant to the update to 2 CFR 200.1, Notice of Funding Opportunity (formerly FOA) is now referred to as Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).

The DOE Office of Science is the nation’s largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences, funding research at hundreds of universities across the country and managing DOE’s 10 national laboratories.
