Fort Sill has four fitness centers for those who want to increase their daily exercise or just want to get moving. All you need is your access card or military ID.
Our four fitness centers – Goldner, Rinehart, Honeycutt and Fires – will help you build muscle, cardio and endurance. The largest of the four is Fires Fitness Center, located west of Sheridan Road.
Our friendly staff welcomes everyone who walks through the doors of Fires Fitness Center. They will scan your Common Access Card or military identification card to authorize you to use the facility.
We typically have 3-2 staff members on site in the morning and 3-4 staff members in the afternoon, constantly supplementing the number of people entering the facility. “On average, we have between 5 and 7,000 people per week,” said manager Claudia Mejia.
Problems can also be resolved by our staff. “The customer service here is amazing,” said James Stowers, one of the guests. Issues range from loss of personal items to medical assistance when needed.
The friendly atmosphere throughout the gym is another notable element guests can expect. It’s a very relaxed and comfortable environment for hardcore and novice gym-goers alike. Many guests agree that the atmosphere is a big draw to going to the gym, as Stowers says, “The atmosphere here is completely different from a commercial gym.” He also says that social interaction is great for people who want to have short conversations with mutual friends.
There is also a relatively large gym. Mejia said Fires Fitness is “twice the square footage of other fitness centers.”
There are two floors, both of which are equipped with cardio machines to burn off those extra calories. If using the machines doesn’t suit your personal needs, an indoor track is also available on the second floor. A functional fitness room is also located on the second floor, perfect for those doing high-intensity interval training or CrossFit training.
If none of this sounds interesting, the first floor has plenty of equipment for weight training, including bench presses, cable machines, squat racks, and dumbbells.
“These are beneficial to trainees as they have all the necessary equipment to help prepare for the upcoming physical exam,” Mejia said. She adds, “If they’re preparing for combat, I definitely recommend doing activities that will help them pass the ACFT and PT tests by doing more functional training.” Ta.
For recreation, Fires offers basketball and racquetball courts, and for those who like to compete against each other, staff will provide basketball and racquetball equipment as needed. Trainees can benefit from this if they take a break from training.
We encourage you to take your children rock climbing and to supervise them if they wish to use the facilities. There is also a family room near the main entrance for toddlers and babies.
In the spring, we also hold annual events that challenge both your mind and body. Fires also supports outside events, Mejia said, “staff also assists with other events such as Oktoberfest and the annual Patriot Club event.”
If you’re interested, the gym also offers cycling, dancing and aerobics.
Fires Fitness Center is open weekdays from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
