Multihyphenate Donald Glover announced on social media Friday that he is canceling the remaining dates on Childish Gambino’s tour, citing health issues.
In an X post on Friday, the musician, writer, actor, director and producer said he was hospitalized due to illness after a show in New Orleans.
“After testing, it became clear that I would not be performing that night, and further testing revealed that I would not be able to perform the remainder of my U.S. tour in the requested time,” he wrote. . “Surgery is scheduled at this time and will require time to heal.”
The news comes a month after Glover shared in an X post that he needed to postpone his tour to “focus” on his physical health.
Glover did not provide additional information about his specific health concerns in Friday’s statement. A spokesperson for Mr. Glover did not respond to a request for comment.
The Grammy-winning “This Is America” singer said the decision to cancel tour dates in North America, the United Kingdom and Europe was “difficult.” But he also wrote, “The road to recovery is something I have to take seriously.”
All tickets will be refunded, he said.
After Glover announced his new tour in May, fans were surprised and excited to see Childish Gambino back on stage.
Glover previously said the 2018 tour for the Amazon Prime reboot of the Mr. and Mrs. Smith series would be “the last Childish Gambino tour ever.”
In May, Glover released the album Atavista, a reworked version of his 2020 project 3.15.20. They also announced a tour called “The New World Tour” starting in August. His last Childish Gambino album, Bando Stone & the New World, was released in July.
Glover has several other upcoming projects in the works, including Peacock’s “Community: The Movie” and “Mufasa: The Lion King.”
In a post on Friday, the artist asked for “love, privacy and support” as he focuses on his health.
