Lance Bass has shared an update on his health, revealing that he spent years believing he had type 2 diabetes after being misdiagnosed.

The *NSYNC star said in March that he developed type 2 diabetes during the coronavirus lockdown, then later revealed in an Instagram post in July that he actually had a different type of diabetes. Announced “Don Dengeshi”.

“Recently, I realized I had been misdiagnosed,” said Bass, who had struggled to control her blood sugar levels despite adjusting her diet, medications and training. “Actually, I have type 1.5, or latent adult autoimmune diabetes (LADA).”

According to the Mayo Clinic, LADA has similarities to type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes occurs when the pancreas stops producing insulin due to an autoimmune process that damages pancreatic cells. Treatment may require insulin injections.

Unlike the typical type 1 diabetes diagnosis, people with LADA usually begin to develop symptoms slowly as adults over 30 years of age. Additionally, people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes have Lada if they are “lean and physically active, or have lost weight without effort.” ”

According to the American Diabetes Association, symptoms of LADA are similar to other forms of diabetes, and patients may experience excessive thirst, extreme fatigue, blurred vision, numbness, tingling, and pain in the hands and feet.

Regarding her overall experience with diabetes, Bass told Newsweek about her initial diagnosis: “It’s kind of a world-shaking feeling, like, wait, what’s going on? ‘Cause I thought I was healthy, and then I was misdiagnosed and treated for a few years.”Type 2 In the case, nothing went right and I was like, “What’s wrong?”

“I’m trying to find a glimmer of hope in it.”

Still, Bass is adopting a positive outlook, especially since he can eventually target the problem. “Now that we know exactly what we’re getting into, we can really control it and use insulin the way it’s supposed to be used,” he said. spoke.

Bass added: “I’m trying to find a silver lining in all of this. The whole thing sucks, but the silver lining is that I’m as healthy as ever. I think that’s really important to me, especially since I have children.” I want to be with them as long as possible and see one or two of my grandchildren. ”

Bass and her husband Michael Turchin announced the birth of twins Violet Betty and Alexander James in October 2021 following a surrogate mother.

The star, who has a full and busy family, has had to actively adjust her diet to get her health on the right track.

“It’s true that we all have a sweet tooth, but we need a good curve of white sugar,” he explained. “I just don’t eat dessert anymore. Or if I want to have a little bit, I make sure I take the right amount of insulin before that because I don’t want to make my life miserable. I never go ” “I can’t eat another bite of cake,” I keep saying for the rest of my life. It’s not just about how my life is going to be. ”

Mr Bass continued: “The key is to choose the right thing at the right time. I have increased my vegetable intake and I no longer eat bread on the table. Either way, you should do what you have to do. ”But somehow I am forced to do it.

work in progress

Basu initially adopted a fitness routine to improve her health, but admits her busy lifestyle has gotten in the way of her efforts.

“I was very good at it,” he said of the workout. “But the summer was really crazy. We actually spend half our time in Palm Springs now. So I was getting the house ready, and then the kids were out of school, so… , I haven’t had much time. But I have to get back into it, especially cardio. I can exercise a little, but my drawback is running and riding the treadmill. I get really tired of doing aerobic exercise.

For now, his cardio is taking care of the growing children featured in his new Halloween-themed picture book, Trick-or-Treat on Scary Street.

The routine of getting the kids out the door every morning is “very tiring,” he said, adding: “It’s like waking up with your kids every morning and getting them ready for the day at school. When they walk out the door, you’re so tired you just want to lie down again.”

take action

Over the past few years, Bass has had the benefit of having his job contribute to his fitness level, especially when he competed on Season 7 of Dancing with the Stars in 2008. She and Lacey Schwimmer made it to the grand finale, finishing third.

“I loved that show and it really changed my life in a positive way,” Bass gushed. “God, that was so long ago. I can’t believe how long ago it was, but it really changed me a lot, especially as an entertainer. Before I debuted, I didn’t have any self-confidence as a performer. ” I am forever grateful. ”

Looking back on the ballroom competitions of those days, he said: “I was looking at Instagram and I saw a photo of Kim Kardashian and Zendaya, and[the caption]said, ‘Kim Kardashian and Zendaya were on ‘Dancing with the.’ “Do you remember?” So, wait, Kim was on my season and I totally forgot Zendaya was on the show!”

Although Bass has aspirations to continue acting, he told Newsweek that the possibility of reuniting on stage with his *NSYNC bandmates “sounds good, it really does.”

“I hope it gives the fans hope, because I certainly have hope,” Bass said. “We’ve talked about a lot of things. We all have so much to accomplish in our lives before something like this happens.”

“Justin[Timberlake]just extended his tour, JC[Chase]is working on this great musical that he’s bringing out, so I don’t think anything’s going to happen right away. But we’re wrong. We’re talking about what our future holds. We’re looking forward to what it will be like.

“Of course everyone is happy,” Bass said of his bandmates. They also include Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick. “Everyone wants to do something. We don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s music? Maybe it’s putting on a show? I mean, you never know. We’re very creative, so Everybody’s just doing something really big.” It’s just putting ideas out there and seeing what sticks. ”
