Texas Tech at Arizona was one of the games selected for ESPN Gameday on Saturday morning. ESPN Gameday analysts almost unanimously picked Arizona State. The only exceptions were host Rece Davis and celebrity guest picker Marshawn Lynch on Superdog Corner.

After opening at 5.5 points earlier this week, FanDuel lists Arizona as a 6.5-point favorite. According to the ESPN Football Power Index, Arizona State has a 58.3 percent chance of beating Texas Tech. Arizona State is ranked 42nd and Texas Tech is ranked 49th in Week 6 FPI. Arizona State is No. 8 and Texas Tech is No. 10 in the Big XII FPI rankings.

Saturday is a key game in the Big XII race. Arizona came from behind to win last week against Utah, moving to 3-1. Texas Tech is 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big XII. Next Saturday, No. 17 BYU will play its only remaining game against a ranked team in Arizona. Texas Tech will play No. 17 Iowa State on Nov. 2 in its only game against a top-ranked team.

The losers of Arizona and Texas Tech will likely have to run the table to qualify for the Big XII Championship. Saturday should be a battle between two offenses with the potential for big plays. Arizona showed its ability to shut down opponents defensively last week against Utah.

Desmond Howard – This is a difficult choice for me. Arizona will win this game with a field goal.

Nick Saban – I’m representing Arizona, and they beat Utah, which was impressive. I thought Utah was really strong, so I’ve been staying in Arizona.

Pat McAfee – Give me Arizona for the surprise win against Utah. i like them

Marshawn Lynch – I got Texas Tech

The Kirk Herbstreit race has Texas Tech as a superdog, so I’m headed to Tucson. I think Arizona will win that game outright, Arizona

The selection was brief, with games selected by ranked teams. The winner of the University of Arizona-Texas Tech has a great chance of making it into the Week 7 rankings. Arizona started the season in the rankings. Performances against New Mexico and Northern Arizona were inconsistent, with a 31-7 loss to Kansas State and Arizona State dropping down the rankings.

Arizona’s game at BYU next week will be a key one in the Big XII race. BYU is in its bye week and enters the game against Arizona at 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Big XII. Arizona’s win over Texas Tech should guarantee it a game against a top-ranked opponent next Saturday in Provo.
