SAN ANTONIO (October 9, 2024) – The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued an Ozone Action Day for the San Antonio region on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

Atmospheric conditions tomorrow are expected to be favorable for high levels of ozone air pollution in the San Antonio area. 2024 will be the 10th Ozone Action Day.

On Ozone Action Day, young children, the elderly and people with respiratory diseases such as asthma, emphysema and bronchitis are particularly vulnerable to air pollution and should limit their outdoor activities. People with asthma or breathing difficulties are strongly encouraged to stay indoors.

To keep our air healthy, residents and businesses are encouraged to voluntarily practice pollution reduction activities such as:

Refueling your car or truck after 6 p.m. Avoid using restaurant drive-thrus. Go inside instead. Turn off your car instead of idling it. Set your thermostat 2-3 degrees higher from 2pm to 7pm. Set your programmable thermostat to a higher temperature when no one is home. The optimal energy saving temperature is 78 degrees. Carpooling or using public transportation. Reduce business travel by consolidating errands.

The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) encourages everyone to take action to help improve air quality and conserve energy. For more information about ground-level ozone, the community can visit Metro Health’s website.
