WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Work is underway inside the Rothschild Convention and Expo Center Wednesday.
High school students had hands-on experience testing skills such as bricklaying and building structures.
The annual Construction Industry Career Fair connects students with people currently working in the profession. This event is designed to give students a feel for what those careers are like.
“It’s a great opportunity in this world to really see a career, get hands-on and try it out,” said Andy Jorgensen, statewide organizer for the Wisconsin Bricklayers and Allied Crafts Union. spoke. I go and I’m like, oh, that’s not for me, you’ll never know until you try it, right? ”
Jorgensen added that unions offer better wages, pensions and health care. Add more trades that you can earn as you learn. This means that when students attend school, their tuition is paid and they can avoid college debt.
Thirty union construction groups and 34 area high schools participated.
