For the first time in decades, obesity rates in the United States are not increasing.

Adult obesity rates have fallen from 41.9% in 2020 to about 40% in 2023, according to the CDC’s latest National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

Although the study does not identify the sole reason for this change, its timing coincides with the emergence of new classes of drugs targeting diabetes and weight loss, such as Ozempic and Wegovy.
