Research: 64% of young people want a career related to their interests and passions

Tomorrow’s Engineers Week 2024, hosted by EngineeringUK, is an exhilarating celebration of careers in engineering and technology, set to spark a wave of national excitement among young people aged 11 to 14.

This year’s theme, ‘Power your passion’, highlights the diverse opportunities in engineering and technology that match their interests and passions, and shows the exciting pathways within the field that will inspire the next generation of engineers. .

A survey of over 2,000 young people at Big Bang Fair 2024 (the UK’s biggest STEM event for young people) found that 64% of young people are particularly motivated by a career that aligns with their passion, We found that 45% of people who should are attracted to the job. The findings highlight the importance of engaging young people in engineering and technology by motivating them and demonstrating how their passion can lead to fulfilling careers in these fields. Teachers and career leaders need support now more than ever.

These resources, including assemblies, lesson plans, a ‘Day in the life’ short film series, and ‘Match your passion’ panels, will help young people explore how their interests can lead to careers in engineering and technology.
