Young people are looking for a workplace that aligns with their values. According to one study. This year it was presented by the National Association of High School Scholars. The organization asked more than 10,000 people what they wanted in a career. All study participants were born between 1996 and 2010.
The survey found that people in this age group want to work for responsible companies. They want their employees to be treated fairly. They are also looking for “work-life balance.”
Many reported liking the idea of a job where they could help others. Nearly half were interested in medicine. Respondents ranked St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as their favorite place to work. The hospital was ranked higher than large companies such as Amazon and Google.
Many younger people than those surveyed have not yet decided what they want from their future careers. TIME for Kids spoke to one of them, Kayden Estrada. He is 11 years old and lives in Pennsylvania. “I want to do what I love,” Kayden said. “And I want to make money, too.”
