Meghan McCain, the daughter of late Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, criticized Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Friday after she shared an anecdote about her interactions with the six-term senator. .

At a Harris Republican Party event in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Friday afternoon, Harris stammered, claiming that John McCain, who represented Grand Canyon in the U.S. Senate until his death in 2018, once admired her.

Harris said the exchange occurred after she and McCain “went after each other” during a committee hearing. She said Republicans contacted her later that day.

“Later that day, I stepped onto the well floor of the Senate — we had a vote — and when I walked past John McCain, he looked at me and said, ‘Hey. , come here. You’re going to win.’ A great senator,” Harris recalled. “True story. Real story.”

Speaking to the crowd afterward, Harris praised the late Arizona senator, calling him an “incredible American hero.” However, Meghan McCain found the story questionable and addressed it publicly on Friday night.

“I know the Democrats want to rewrite history and turn my father into all sorts of fantasies. Depending on the political moment, we need to mock the memory of my father… Please don’t start sharing what you remember saying about Kamala Harris,” McCain wrote.

“And consider this your final warning shot. I’ll spill the tea.”

McCain on Saturday called his critics “lunatics” in response to the backlash.

“My timeline is full of really inspiring Democrats who claim to know my father and therefore my daughter,” she wrote. “Get a grip on reality, you lunatic.”

Waltz declared at the rally, “We can’t afford to go on for four more years,” and roasted him.

Democrats have been aggressively targeting moderate Republicans in Arizona this election cycle, and the battleground state is expected to have a major impact on November’s presidential election.

Some Republican officials in the state have invoked McCain’s name in a show of support for Harris, as the former president had a frosty relationship with former President Trump.

Speaking at a Harris rally in August, Arizona Democratic Rep. Gregory Stanton called on “John McCain Republicans” to support the Harris-Waltz ticket. Mesa’s Republican mayor echoed that sentiment.

Mesa Mayor John Giles said, “In the spirit of the great Senator John McCain, we will put country before party, stop Donald Trump, protect the rule of law, protect the Constitution, and protect our great country.” Please join me in defending democracy.”
