ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) — With flu season upon us, Sentara RMH held its annual drive-thru flu event on Saturday. The event allowed anyone in the community to drive into the hospital parking lot and receive a free vaccine.
Sentara RMH Infection Prevention Director Becky Brubaker said getting the vaccine now will provide immunity within two weeks and help get people through at least three months of influenza season.
“If you choose not to get the flu vaccine, you may risk further problems such as secondary pneumonia if you actually get the flu. Take this opportunity to get your flu vaccine in order to have a healthier winter. It’s well worth getting the vaccine,” Brubaker said. “When we talk to people about getting the flu vaccine, we often hear that people who haven’t gotten it yet say, “I don’t have time.” It’s well worth taking the time to find a pharmacy or clinic and get your flu vaccine. It could actually save your life.”
The drive, which lasted from 8 a.m. to noon, administered 128 flu vaccinations. For those who weren’t able to get one, Brubaker recommended getting the vaccine at a local pharmacy or clinic.
