New chief nursing officer joins Cayuga Health – Finger Lakes Daily News

Cayuga Health has named a new chief nursing officer.

Dr. Debra Morton was selected after a national search and interview process that included nurses, physicians, and administrators from across the health system. Ms. Morton will be responsible for strategic leadership and vision for nursing and patient services to ensure quality patient-centered care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

“I am excited to join Cayuga Health to help shape the future of nursing practice,” said Morton. “I am inspired by the dedication of Cayuga public health nurses to providing excellent care in their communities, and together we are working to create new I am confident that we can achieve this level of nursing innovation and performance by working with other members of our leadership team and healthcare providers to optimize patient care delivery, improve interdisciplinary communication, and improve patient care. We are excited to increase your satisfaction. ”

Mr. Morton will begin his role on September 30th and will report directly to Dr. Martin Stallone, President and CEO of Cayuga Health.

“Debra’s proven expertise in patient experience will bring the next level of focus to the efforts already underway at Cayuga Health,” Stallone said. “As our organization has evolved into an integrated delivery network, so has the complexity of our operations. Debra’s experience in clinical operations will be invaluable to the Cayuga Health team as we navigate a challenging healthcare environment. Her strategic vision and inspiring leadership style will provide direction and support to nurses and patient care staff during a critical time of change.”

Morton joins Cayuga Health with more than 30 years of acute care experience in hospital operations, strategic planning, operational and financial improvement, staff empowerment, labor relations, and quality management. Ms. Morton previously served as Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at LifeBridge Health Sinai Hospital, a 483-bed teaching hospital and Level 2 Trauma Center (Baltimore MD). Previous experience includes leadership roles at Kaiser Permanente and Dignity Health in California. Morton trained at Geisinger School of Nursing (Danville, PA), Thomas Jefferson University (Philadelphia, PA), and received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of San Francisco.
