Residents of Hanson, Massachusetts, are being asked to stop projecting political signs onto the town’s water tower or face fines, according to a statement released by Hanson Town Administrator Lisa Green.
Green issued a statement after noticing that the resident was projecting images from his home.
“On Friday, October 11th, the Town of Hanson became aware that residents were projecting images of political signs from their property onto the Town of Hanson water tower located at 228 High Street. The actions are misleading to residents and are sanctioned or tolerated by the town,” Green’s statement said.

Green went on to say that the town “does not endorse candidates for any office from any political party.”
City officials are fighting the visibility of the “Trump 2024” campaign logo projected onto a water tower using floodlights. However, it was still visible as of Friday evening. And the cease and desist orders being prepared for violators will result in fines of $100 per day until the activity ceases.

“Highway Authority staff installed spotlights to shine on the water tower, dimming the reflection. Further measures are currently being considered,” the statement said. “This person’s actions cost taxpayers a lot of money, including legal fees, overtime pay to the Highway Department employees who turn the spotlights on and off every day, and the possibility of having to rent or purchase more powerful lighting equipment. The $100 per day fine may not cover these costs.
Hanson City officials wanted to make it clear that they respect everyone’s rights and expression of political views, as long as they do not imply that those views are those of the town as a whole.

“While the Town of Hanson respects the right of all residents to free speech and the right of all residents to express their political views, the Town of Hanson respects the right of all residents to express their political views. “We prohibit expressions in a way that could be seen as inappropriate,” the statement said.
