McGuire hopes to focus on a number of events around Tech Baylor on Saturday.

Texas Tech will welcome a team to Lubbock on Saturday that is 0-4 against power conference opponents this season and 0-3 on the Big 12 schedule, but that team head coach Joey McGuire was talking about. I don’t think so. Baylor Bears on Monday.

Midway through the season, the Red Raiders are tied for first place in the Big 12, and it’s important for Tech’s head coach to keep his foot on the gas and take advantage of the opportunities in front of him. Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

“I know it sounds crazy, but we just want to go 1-0 this week and 4-0 in the Big 12. So that means we have a great chance,” McGuire said. “So whether it’s Baylor or whoever is coming here to play, we have to find a way to win.”

McGuire is familiar with Baylor’s roster and coaching staff, and the team has been looking for a “tiebreaker” since McGuire and his recruiting staff arrived from Waco, but in McGuire’s eyes, over time The transition is becoming easier.

McGuire hopes the Red Raiders can keep it to themselves and handle their home-field duties on Saturday, despite the relationship with staff and players on the roster.

“I think last year’s win helped this building, and this year’s win certainly helped that building, but we’re all really good friends. I mean, the guys on the staff that I know. That’s it,” McGuire said. . “I think year three is probably going to be a little bit different. For us, we’re going to have fewer and fewer players on the roster that we were key to recruiting… so I think it’s going to be a similar week to any other. “In the Big 12, you’re just trying to find a way to win.”

This weekend’s matchup between the Bears and Red Raiders, the relationship with the staff, the long rivalry that dates back to 1929 and are currently tied for 39 wins, and Texas Tech’s return to Lubbock for the second time on homecoming weekend. There are many things happening.

Former Red Raider Steve Linton returned to Lubbock on Saturday, wearing a different jersey than the one he wore last season, and Lubbock local Coronado High School legend Sawyer Robertson played in the quarter against his hometown college. He is scheduled to start as a backup.

Linton, who generated a lot of excitement with the program in the offseason leading up to the 2023 season but was mostly a disappointment for Texas Tech, returns to Lubbock and is having a productive year for the Bears.

“I hate it when we play a really good version of him on Saturday. We’ve seen that version before,” McGuire said of Linton. I did it the right way. Whenever he left, I definitely expected him to be out of the conference. ”

This will be a bigger challenge than most expected, as Tech is in a more than touchdown position to begin the week, but that’s the week-to-week nature of the Big 12, and Tech has a chance to maintain. This weekend is the pace at which the pages are turned towards the end of October.
