LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) – Nebraska has a new behavioral health director.

Gov. Jim Pillen on Tuesday appointed Dr. Thomas Janosek to head the behavioral health division of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. He is scheduled to assume the position next Monday.

Dr. Janosek has been deputy director of the state’s behavioral health department since October 2022, after working as a neuropsychologist at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln.

As mental health issues become increasingly prominent in Nebraska and around the world, Dr. Janosek shared his vision for how the state health department can help combat the worsening infectious disease.

“We need more crisis and community-based service options across the state, and we need to address the barriers that make it difficult for individuals to participate in the public behavioral health system.” said Dr. Janosek in a press release from the governor’s office. Tuesday.

Dr. Janoszek will replace Tony Green, the department’s director of developmental disabilities and interim behavioral health director while the state searched for a candidate to replace him.

“Over the years, Director Green has led several departments on an interim basis at DHHS. He has been a steady presence within the agency, and we deeply appreciate his contributions to the state’s civil service.” Governor Pillen said in a release.
