The company hosts its first career open day for students from local schools and universities in Southampton

Last month (September 24), CEMEX held its first ever Careers Open Day, attended by students from local schools and universities in Southampton, with the aim of introducing students to UK business and the wider mineral products industry. I did.

Darren Puffey, MP for Southampton and Itchen, expressed his support for the event, saying: “Bringing together Southampton businesses, education providers, civil society and of course students will ensure that we can capitalize on the many opportunities that being a maritime city brings. This is extremely important in order to be able to introduce it to the public.” I’ll bring it.

“As a new Member of Parliament, one of my priorities is to break down barriers to opportunity, so I wholeheartedly support this event and wish the organizers and participants every success.”I look forward to seeing more of this in the future. We hope this will be the first open day of the ocean. ”

Cemex is collaborating with the Solent Careers Hub and Southampton City Council to provide valuable career guidance and provide students with insight into career paths at Cemex, ultimately helping students make informed decisions about their future. We hosted an open day to help you make the decision.

The day began with an overview of CEMEX’s role in providing essential building materials to help build new homes, schools, hospitals, leisure facilities and other vital infrastructure locally and across the UK.

Students had the opportunity to investigate how aggregates are extracted, processed, and used in products such as cement, mortar, and ready-mixed concrete. We also had the opportunity to understand how CEMEX’s sustainability team is supporting the business as it strives to become a carbon net zero business by 2050.

Students learned about the many other uses of minerals, not only for building and construction materials, but also for food, medicine, toothpaste, and water, and learned about industries that contribute significantly to improving quality of life, education, and welfare. . .

Kurt Cowdery, general manager of CEMEX’s marine business in the UK, commented: “We created this event to ensure these students have real-world encounters with professionals, while providing practical insight and important employability skills.” With Solent Careers Hub Collaboration not only benefits our students, but also helps us as a company form the skills we need for a more sustainable future.

“We want to introduce young people to our industry and career opportunities they may not have known about otherwise. We are delighted to welcome our students and We hope our students will have a fun-filled day while learning more about the opportunities within our industry.”

A highlight of the day was the opportunity for students to step aboard the company’s flagship marine aggregate dredger, Cemex Go Innovation, where they received a tour of the vessel and the rigorous Safety procedures were introduced. This is done as an operational and engineering activity that enables Cemex Marine to provide critical minerals for use in local and national building and construction projects.

The event was sponsored by exhibitors from across the industry, including The Crown Estate, Wessex Archeology, The Ship Safe Training Group, which supports the UK Merchant Navy with training activities, Minerals Matter and Maritime UK Solent.
