LOVES PARK, Ill. (WIFR) – The 13th Annual Academy Expo gives Rockford Public High School students a taste of what career opportunities will be available upon graduation.

Year 9 students were able to experience the Academy Expo on Wednesday.

“It’s a completely different experience to actually leave school and meet someone in a place like this where they’re bringing in different types of equipment and materials that they use in their daily work,” says executive director Bridget French. . Rockford Public Schools College and Career Preparation.

More than 500 volunteers gathered and set up more than 100 career booths in business (film production, real estate, etc.), production (manufacturing, construction, manufacturing, etc.), and health (doctors, nurses, research, etc.). and services (hospitality, education, etc.).

French said the district wanted to present how students can learn about Rockford’s ever-evolving future.

“Previously we didn’t have a hospitality pathway, but with the casino and the downtown hotel, we decided we needed a hospitality pathway in our community, so we added a hospitality pathway,” French said. says Mr.

Rockford Public Schools students must begin choosing courses and pathways for grades 10-12 in December. French says today’s event helped them figure out what’s best for them.

“Students engage with the community through site visits, job shadows, and internships, meaning this is just the beginning of their careers and community partnerships.”

French said the Rockford area has a lot of manufacturing jobs and a real need for teachers and medical staff.
