Gigi Marvin said her career comes after a stellar 14-year career that made her a household name in women’s hockey, from representing the United States in the Olympics to skating in her first year in the PWHL in Boston.
Marvin, a three-time Olympian and one-time gold medalist, announced his retirement this month. Marvin, 37, played college hockey at the University of Minnesota and was a two-time National MVP finalist. Only one campaign in Boston allowed her to enjoy the historic PWHL environment, but now she has found peace and has no regrets as she moves forward with the next chapter of her life.
“It affects your body and mind quite a bit, and I just got to a point where I feel so much peace,” Marvin said on NESN’s “Hockey Hub” podcast. “I’ve been lucky to have a very long career. Last year I was the oldest player in the league, so I loved the league, but I thought now was the right time to hang up my skates. And I couldn’t have been more excited about how my career ended up happening and how it unfolded over the years. So I really appreciate that ability to be like, “Yes, this is the right time and I’m going to choose to date on my terms.” And I felt such a sense of peace and gratitude. ”
Over more than a decade of professional hockey, Marvin had 24 goals and 50 assists in 126 games in domestic competition, and one goal and three assists in 24 games with the Boston Fleet.
