The Obamas came.

Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama will make their first campaign appearance alongside Vice President Kamala Harris at rallies in Georgia and Michigan next week, the Harris campaign announced Friday.

Democrats have long waited to hire the former first couple to represent Harris. Nearly eight years after leaving the White House, they remain among the most popular politicians in the country, including suburbanites and black Americans, whom Ms. Harris sought to capture in the final stages of the campaign. It has gained a high approval rating from the precise voter base.

Mr. Obama had already made a solo campaign appearance in Pittsburgh last week, admonishing some black men for not supporting Ms. Harris enough.

“You’re coming up with all kinds of reasons and excuses” for not supporting her, he told them. “There’s a problem with that.”

Mr. Obama will appear in Georgia with Mr. Harris on Thursday. He also plans to hold a solo event in Tucson, Arizona in the coming days. Las Vegas; Detroit; and Madison, Wisconsin.

Mrs. Obama’s popularity and unwillingness to participate in many political events led to unsubstantiated speculation in the Democratic Party that she would vote for President Biden instead of Ms. Harris, but on Saturday Harris is scheduled to attend an election rally in the US. , the camp revealed on October 26th.

Mrs. Obama gave a well-received speech at the Democratic National Convention in August, but has not appeared in public since then, replacing Ms. Harris. At the convention, she implored Democrats to “do something” to help Harris win the election.

Events are timed for maximum impact. Michigan’s suspension comes on the first day of early voting across the state.
