In a recent study published in Nursing Outlook, Megan Ingraham, managing director of Manatt Health, and Vincent Guilamo Ramos, professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and executive director of the Institute for Policy Solutions, He and his colleagues looked at how nurse recruitment is done. -Directed care models can improve access to and quality of care for Medicaid members.
The nursing profession’s full potential is limited by ongoing policy barriers, organizational structures, and payment models. However, nurses make up the nation’s largest group of trusted health professionals, and leveraging this workforce has the potential to meaningfully advance the health of all people within Medicaid and nationally. This article reviews policy mechanisms within Medicaid that can be used to fully optimize the nursing workforce through the implementation of nurse-led models of care.
