Harris was citing a Politico report that said several planned interviews with Trump did not happen because the 78-year-old Republican candidate was “exhausted.” A Trump campaign spokesperson told Politico that this was a “patternly falsehood.”
“Look, being president of the United States is probably one of the toughest jobs in the world. So we really have to ask, if he’s exhausted from campaigning, is he even going to do the job?” ‘And I think that’s the right thing to do.’ It’s an open-ended question and we need an answer,” Harris said.
Harris said that’s a “legitimate question,” adding: “If you can’t withstand the rigors of campaigning, that should be a concern.”
President Trump has not yet released his recent medical records, insisting on Friday that he “has everything.”
His campaign says he is in “perfect and good health” to take office. In November 2023, President Trump shared a letter from an osteopathic medicine doctor who said he was examined in September 2023 and was in “good overall health.” The letter does not provide details about his vitals or medications.
“I’ve taken the test five times in the last four years,” President Trump told CBS News while campaigning in Michigan.
Asked whether he had actually released all of his medical records, Trump asked Harris to take a cognitive test.
“Obviously, I’m in the middle of a very large, very controversial battle,” he said. “I took a medical checkup. I also took a cognitive function test twice, and I passed it, so I got a perfect score.
