STEUBENVILLE — A day after Trinity Health System began transferring patients to a new state-of-the-art tower, President Matt Grimshaw announced his resignation.
Mr. Grimshaw will depart for Kentucky in mid-December, where he will become market president for CHI St. Joseph Health.
He has been at Trinity for seven years.
“Matt has had a huge impact on the health care landscape in Ohio,” said Doug Lawson, president of CommonSpirit Health’s southern region. “He has a passion for delivering excellent health services to people in need and has successfully navigated a wide range of strategic challenges during his tenure at Trinity. I am happy to be able to maintain my passion and talent.”
CHI St. Joseph Health and Trinity Health System are part of CommonSpirit Health’s Southern Region, created in 2019 as a partnership between Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health. One of the largest health systems in the United States, CHI includes more than 2,200 health systems. Care sites in 24 states.
“My priority for the past seven years has been to position Trinity Health System for long-term success,” Grimshaw said. “With the opening of our new tower, enhanced clinical programs, medical education, and new St. Clairsville Neighborhood Hospital scheduled to open next summer, we are confident the Trinity Health System team is ready for the next chapter. I am.”
He said he is “humbled and honored” to have been selected for the new position within the Common Spirit South division of CHI St. Joseph Health.
“I’m excited to join the talented team at St. Joseph Health and be part of continuing our 150-year tradition of providing quality health care in this region,” he added.
Grimshaw also said he is grateful to the people of the Ohio Valley for the warm welcome he and his family have received since moving there.
“During our time here, we made lifelong connections,” he said. “We will always miss the memories we made with the people here.”
He also said he was pleased to be able to lead Trinity’s new patient tower to completion. Mr Grimshaw said Trinity received its long-awaited occupancy permit for the new tower on October 9, his 50th birthday, and began transferring patients a week later. The new addition features 88 private rooms with large bathrooms, as well as new public spaces, a surgical services hub and other amenities.
As for the vacant space, Grimshaw said it’s already being worked on: “The redevelopment options we have… we may see more mobile reuse.” The clinic makes very good use of some of those spaces. ”
Hospital officials say an interim director will be announced in the coming weeks.
“I plan on staying here for a few more months,” Grimshaw said. “It will be a good opportunity to say goodbye and wish everyone good luck.”
