Bulloch County Schools will launch Georgia’s annual Student Health Survey for students in grades 3-12 starting Dec. 2 and urges parents to review the survey questions now. Parents have until November 22 to opt their children out if they wish.
Bullock County Schools third through 12th grade students will participate in Georgia’s annual Student Health Survey starting Monday, Dec. 2.
Parents can review survey questions before taking a survey and see the results of previous surveys. These are posted on the Bulloch County Schools website at www.bullochschools.org/gastudenthealthsurvey.
Parents who wish to opt out of their child’s participation in the survey should complete the form and return it to their child’s school by noon on Friday, November 22nd. This form is also available on the referenced web page. Printed copies are also available upon request from the school office. If you need help removing your child from the study, you can also obtain a form from your child’s school.
Each school will set its own schedule to conduct the survey between December 2nd and March 4th. All schools must survey at least 75 percent of their enrolled students.
There are two age-specific versions of the Georgia Student Health Survey. (1) Grades 3 through 5. (2) Grades 6-12. These are short 15-minute surveys, and individual student responses are self-reported and anonymous. Online responses are sent directly to the Georgia Department of Education for review, not to the school district.
Encourage your child to take survey questions seriously and answer honestly. The results will be used to guide each school’s school climate efforts, health curriculum direction, and drug and alcohol prevention education goals. School climate refers to the quality and characteristics of school life. School climate sets the tone for all learning and teaching that takes place in a school environment and predicts a child’s ability to learn and develop in a healthy way.
Student health survey results
Individual student responses will be kept confidential. The state has not released the results of the survey’s raw data. The Georgia Department of Education provides the Georgia Student Health Survey Dashboard to the public, which includes overall survey results by school and district. This provides overall data on how students responded to survey questions regarding school safety, school climate, peer and adult social support, bullying, mental health, substance abuse, and suicidal ideation. For your convenience, these results will also be posted in the survey section of the Bulloch County Schools website at www.bullochschools.org/gastudenthealthsurvey.
