Notre Dame’s special teams dazzled by Georgia Tech

Notre Dame’s special teams put on a great performance

Notre Dame defeated Georgia Tech in all three phases of the game. Offensively, defensively and definitely on special teams. Notre Dame was held back on a field goal attempt, had a kick blocked by freshman Bryce Young and had not one, but two trick plays in what appeared to be a punt formation that resulted in a first down.

Irish special teams coordinator Marty Biagi gave it his all against the Yellow Jackets, and Notre Dame executed the play to perfection. This was a positive performance that took away multiple possessions from Georgia Tech. It was a great day at the office for everyone involved.

Familiar faces told by Tyler Buchner

One of the highlights of the day was when Tyler Buchner made a perfect fake hold and then used his feet to steal a first down. Buechner’s college career didn’t go as smoothly as he had hoped, but it’s great to see him return and contribute to Notre Dame.

While this special teams performance was great and Irish fans loved watching the deception, it naturally raises questions. Should Notre Dame have used both of these trick plays against Georgia Tech, or should they have kept one or both for more tense game moments later in the season? None of us know the answer to this question, but perhaps the Irish have some brand new tricks up their sleeve the rest of the way?
