Dr. Radha wins on world stage with groundbreaking cotton research

Dr. Radha, a young woman from the remote Bobli village of Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh, has achieved international recognition by excelling at the prestigious World Cotton Research Conference-8 (WCRC-8) held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Now you can Representing Himachal Pradesh, she won the first prize for creative cotton crafts and also presented the research paper “Enhanced lignin extraction from cotton stalks using ultrasound assisted ionic liquid method”. Her innovative research and outstanding skills have stood out on a global platform, making her the first participant from the state to take part in this global event. Additionally, she impressed the judges by creating a unique globe with the theme “One World – One Cotton” in less than six minutes, winning a $200 cash prize and an additional $100 for her creation. did.

Dr. Radha’s success story is rooted in her perseverance. Her mother, Vidya Devi, sold ice cream to fund her education. Despite these challenges, Dr. Radha became the first local girl to make her mark in the field of cotton research. She currently works as an assistant professor at Shurini University and is grateful for the support of the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) and university leadership.

Radha completed her schooling from Shirai and later graduated from Portmore School, Shimla and completed her master’s degree from Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Central University. Her hard work, which sometimes involves 14 to 15 hours of lab research each day, makes her family proud, as well as young women from rural backgrounds who want to make their mark on the world stage.
