Influenza is a contagious respiratory infection that can cause serious illness. Symptoms include fatigue, body aches, cough, and sometimes fever, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Influenza viruses are circulating year-round, but cases of influenza increase during the fall and winter months. Vaccines are key to preventing the spread of the virus during this time.
Public health officials say everyone six months of age and older should get the flu vaccine every year.
