‘Fitness, discipline issues’: Prithvi Shaw left out of Ranji Trophy squad

Top-order batsman Prithvi Shaw has been left out of the Mumbai squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Tripura due to fitness and discipline issues.

The matches are scheduled to be held in Agartala from October 26 to 29.

The right-handed opening batsman, who has played five Tests, six ODIs and one T20I for India, appears to have run into trouble.

It was reliably revealed that the 24-year-old did not regularly attend the team’s training sessions and also appeared to be “a bit overweight”.

“When he is on the field, you have to look at his fitness and run. MCA has a rich history and there can be no exceptions for certain players,” a Mumbai Cricket Association source told PTI. Ta.

Shaw’s form is a concern considering he has not posted scores of 7, 12, 1 and 39 in the two rounds of the Ranji Trophy. Mumbai’s senior men’s selection committee took the decision to exclude him, citing his fitness and “general behaviour”.

Mumbai selectors have named 29-year-old left-handed opening batsman Akhil Kherwadkar as his replacement. Helvatkar played 41 first-class matches and has seven centuries and 10 centuries at an average of 36.51.

India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav, a mainstay in the mid-order, has also been rested from the Mumbai squad. Suryakumar scored seven runs in a nine-wicket win over Maharashtra in his only appearance for Mumbai.

Mumbai representative:

Ajinkya Rahane (c), Ayush Maatle, Ankrish Raghuvanshi, Akhil Kherwadkar, Shreyas Iyer, Siddesh Lad, Suryansh Shedge, Hardik Tamoa (wk), Sidhanth Addatrao (wk), Shams Mulani, Karsh – Kothari, Himanshu Singh, Shardul Thakur, Mohit Avasti, Juned Khan, Royston Dias.
