Prithvi Shaw, one of India’s top-order batsmen, has been left out of the Mumbai squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Tripura, citing fitness and discipline issues, PTI reports.

According to details, the Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Tripura will be held in Agartala from October 26 to 29.

The report said Shaw does not regularly attend the team’s training sessions and also appears to be “slightly overweight.”

“We have to look at his fitness and how he runs when he’s on the field. MCA has a rich history and there can’t be exceptions for certain players,” a Mumbai Cricket Association official said. told PTI.

The 24-year-old has been in poor form as the ace, posting scores of 7, 12, 1 and 39 in the second round of the Ranji Trophy.

The Mumbai senior men’s selection committee took the decision to drop Shaw citing his fitness and “general behaviour”.

The show has long been the subject of controversy due to its fitness. He has failed the mandatory yo-yo fitness test conducted by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) ahead of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). According to India Today, the minimum score required for a male cricketer was 16.5, but Shaw’s score was less than 15.

Mumbai selectors have selected 29-year-old left-handed opening batsman Akhil Kherwatkar as Shaw’s replacement for the Ranji Trophy match against Tripura. He has played 41 first-class matches, averaging 36.51 and has seven centuries and 10 fifties.

Looking at Shaw’s statistics, he has played five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I for India.

Apart from this, Mumbai rested India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav for the Ranji Trophy. At the time, the Indian national team was preparing for a four-match T20I series against South Africa starting November 8.

Mumbai representative:

Ajinkya Rahane (c), Ayush Maatle, Ankrish Raghuvanshi, Akhil Kherwadkar, Shreyas Iyer, Siddesh Lad, Suryansh Shedge, Hardik Tamoa (wk), Sidhanth Addatrao (wk), Shams Mulani, Karsh – Kothari, Himanshu Singh, Shardul Thakur, Mohit Avasti, Juned Khan, Royston Dias.
