ATLANTA — The availability of quarterback Haynes King, who was injured in Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech, is undetermined, head coach Brent Key said Tuesday.

King missed last Saturday’s 31-13 loss to No. 12 Notre Dame with an apparent right shoulder injury. Key said last week that King is a day-to-day thing and will make a decision at game time. King was not in uniform for the game and appeared to be far from ready to play.

On Tuesday, Key strongly refuted the suggestion that King has already been ruled out against Virginia Tech.

“Haynes still lives hand-to-mouth,” Key said. “Zero calls on that, zero. OK. He’s good every day. Are we preparing other guys to play? Yes. Have we ruled him out? No. You. You heard it from the horse’s mouth right there.”

Zach Pyron made his first start since his freshman season in 2022 and completed his first nine passes against Notre Dame. Overall, Pyron completed 20 of 36 passes for 269 yards, including one touchdown and two interceptions.

“I was very proud of the way he played and the way he performed,” Key said of Pylon. “And, you know, I’m not saying the play in 72 was perfect. I’m not saying that. … Some plays may take it back to him, but those mistakes We will learn from this and move forward this week.”

King’s dual-threat skills as a runner and passer were important for Georgia Tech (5-3, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference).
