MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – The Rotaract Club of Northern Michigan University is hosting a bake sale to help eradicate polio in the Gaza Strip.
The club will sell homemade cookies, brownies and baked goods. NMU students and market residents alike are encouraged to stop by and purchase baked goods.
Rotaract NMU President Cassidy Gibson said Rotary International has been working to eradicate polio for more than 50 years. Mr Gibson said polio was starting to return in several places, one of which was Gaza.
“With all the political issues going on in Gaza right now, we have decided to take a more humane stance,” Gibson said. “We decided to look at this issue from a more humane perspective to see what we can do to provide these people with the resources they need to stay healthy.”
Club treasurer Tom Rupp said every dollar raised at the bake sale will help administer one dose of polio vaccine in Gaza. The bake sale will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Jam Rich ticket booth across from Starbucks.
