Last Friday, Harvard School of Dentistry Dean William V. Gianobile was awarded the American Dental Association’s 2024 Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Dental Research.
This triennial honor recognizes individuals who have advanced dentistry through research or significantly improved oral public health, and recognizes Jean-Nobire’s contributions to both research and student teaching. .
“I could not have accomplished what I have in my career without the loving support of my family, colleagues, mentors, and inspiring students,” Jeannobire said in an emailed statement.
Jeannobilet has contributed to research in areas such as bone and tissue regeneration, stem cell therapy, and precision medicine. His laboratory at HSDM focuses on bone remodeling, dental implants, and gene delivery methods that promote osseointegration of dental implants as they fuse to the bone.
As part of the award, Jeannobilet will receive a three-year term as a member of the ADA’s Scientific Affairs Council. Past recipients of this award include Basil G. Bibby, 27th president of the International Oral and Craniofacial Reconstruction Society;
Prior to becoming HSDM dean in 2020, Jean-Nobire was professor and chair of the Department of Periodontology and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He received his MD from HSDM and his dental and master’s degrees from the University of Missouri School of Dentistry.
