WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Novant Health on Oct. 23 opened a new simulation lab equipped with anesthesia carts, surgical lights and ultrasound equipment to simulate a real-life facility for medical residents. .
The lab is housed in a renovated bank off South 17th Street and features a mock operating room that includes a viewing area to observe preceptors.
“We created a multidisciplinary space that follows the continuum of care from the clinic’s outpatient exam room to the operating room to the emergency room and trauma unit,” said Novant Health Senior Associate of Medical Education. said President Dr. Joe Pino. “Because we are a teaching hospital, our focus is on practicing complex procedures and care in a controlled and safe environment.”
The health system operates specialty residency programs in family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, and psychiatry.
Members of clinical teams who want to implement new equipment or processes can also use this lab.
“This space includes interactive equipment to provide physicians and clinical trainees with a realistic simulation environment,” Dr. Pino said. “It is very important to develop these skills in a simulated environment as part of training. This ensures that new physicians are highly skilled when they enter the clinical environment and is committed to patient safety. and help improve quality care.”
