PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) – Presque Isle held its third annual career fair today in the upper gymnasium at Presque Isle High School. The purpose of this event is to get Aroostook County students interested in planning their futures after graduation. Students from several schools in central Aroostook learned about local businesses, universities and different branches of the military Tuesday.
With more than 60 vendors participating, students like Presque Isle sophomore Emily Collins said the fair influenced her decision. “This is really a great opportunity for all students, even if they don’t know what they want to do. So I think it’s really great that our school does this. I’m looking forward to college. I don’t really know what I want to do yet, so this is really helpful for me to see all the different schools and different opportunities that could be available after high school.I’m really interested in the Husson booth. Yes, because I would probably like to go to college there and become a physical therapist someday.I’m trying to figure out whether I want to go to the University of Maine or Husson University. It’s great to hear about which programs are better at each school.”
School officials said they are spending the week focused on helping students plan their futures. Alison Reid, director of instruction at SAD1, said: Obviously, our seniors are starting to make more plans as they submit their college applications. So this is a great opportunity for our seniors to speak with representatives from schools they are interested in, but we also have students who are planning to join the workforce. Therefore, it is important to have the opportunity to see what is available only locally in our community. Who is hiring and what is out there? ”
Other county schools will also be holding career fairs this week, Reed said. It will be held at the Caribou Tech Center on October 24th and at the Houlton Rec Center on October 25th.
