Accolades: Forbes recognizes UVA Health as a Best Employer for Women

National business magazine Forbes ranks UVA Health among the 50 best employers for women in America and among the top 15 health systems in the nation.

UVA Health ranks No. 40 overall and No. 11 among health systems on Forbes’ 2024 list of America’s Best Employers for Women.

Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to survey more than 150,000 women working at companies with 1,000 or more employees. They were asked whether they would recommend their current and previous employers and whether they would recommend other employers they were familiar with. Survey respondents rated their current employer on policies such as working conditions, pay equity, and parental leave. Statista also looked at the percentage of women in leadership roles at each company.

“Our ranking by Forbes reflects our continued commitment to making UVA Health a destination for talented women and a workplace of choice in healthcare,” said UVA Health Chief Executive Officer & said Dr. K. Craig Kent, Executive Vice President of Health Affairs. . “I am honored to know and appreciate the many outstanding women who work at UVA Health, from our executive leadership to our front-line clinicians and caregivers. These people and their excellence are recognized across the country. Not only am I recognized, but I am recognized every day by my patients here at home.”

“Through our Leadership Academy, which helps Charlottesville-area residents launch careers in health care, and our Earn While You Learn program, we’ve empowered women to thrive in health care,” said UVA CEO Wendy Horton. “We are committed to helping them build their careers.” Health University Medical Center.

Meanwhile, UVA School of Medicine is increasing women’s representation and fostering their careers through the Women in Medicine and Science Committee and other initiatives.

“The School of Medicine is committed to diversifying its workforce, both by training the next generation of female physicians and steadily increasing the number of women on our faculty,” said Dr. Melina Kibe, medical director and chief health officer. For UVA health. “For example, we are very proud that more than 40% of our faculty are women, 50% of our trainees are women, 52% of our medical students are women, and 66% of our PhDs are women. Equity Center Executive Director selected as Obama Foundation Leader

Ben Allen, executive director of the Equity Center at the University of Virginia, announced that 205 leaders were selected to participate in the Obama Foundation Leaders Program, which trains participants around the world in leadership development and civic engagement. I’m alone. Allen will be one of 100 leaders to participate in the U.S. program.

As part of the six-month program, Allen and his colleagues will host weekly virtual interactive sessions designed to help hone leadership skills and build relationships with colleagues. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with prominent members of the Obama Foundation community and participate in virtual experiences and special events, including one-on-one conversations with experienced mentors from the Foundation’s global network.

Architecture professor named Community Engagement Academy Scholarship Chair

Associate Professor Suzanne Moumau, Chair of the School of Architecture’s Department of Urban and Environmental Planning, has been elected Chair of the Community Engagement Academy Scholarship.

The Academy provides expertise to policy makers, higher education institutions, community leaders, and national and international organizations. The organization is interested in addressing complex social issues through higher education and effective engagement with community members and organizations.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to lead a membership organization dedicated to improving conditions for people and places,” Moomaw said. “The work our members do every day gives us hope that we can and will build a better world through our efforts of and for everyone. Our Challenge is about connecting, collaborating, and building community to address our toughest problems.”

The academy was founded 10 years ago to celebrate the achievements of its members and promote community-engaged scholarship as part of its academic mission.

UVA Health receives National Pharmacy Award for Excellence in Patient Care

UVA Health has received the 2024 High Value Pharmacy Award from Premier Inc., a healthcare improvement company, for demonstrating exceptional leadership and providing significant value to pharmacy patients.

Premier’s High-Value Pharmacy Award recognizes outstanding performance and operations across Premier’s membership of more than 4,350 hospitals and health systems and approximately 300,000 other healthcare providers and organizations.

UVA Health’s more than 500-member pharmacy services team serves patients at 23 locations across central and northern Virginia, including all four of the health system’s hospitals.

“Strengthening our pharmacy operations is critical to our organization’s ability to serve our patients and communities,” said Jessica Daly, Premier’s Chief Pharmacy Officer. “We applaud UVA Health’s efforts and efforts to share best practices with the broader Premier Alliance.”
