New outdoor public fitness courts coming to Wyandotte next spring – News Herald

Wyandotte is building a new public fitness court outside Pulaski Park, expected to be operational by spring 2025.

Recreation Superintendent Cheryl Riley said the project was funded by a $50,000 grant from Priority Health and $110,000 from the Wyandotte parks account approved at the Oct. 14 City Council meeting. He said it would be done.

The courts will feature a variety of outdoor exercise equipment, including pull-up bars and weights.

“It’s a field that anyone can do in any way, including age and ability,” Riley said.

She said having an outdoor fitness court that is free to the public is especially important because the city of Wyandotte does not have a public recreation center where people can exercise regularly.

Concrete for the court will be poured in the coming weeks, followed by the rest of the park, which will be fully operational in the spring, she said. Pulaski Park is located at the corner of 12th Street and Oxford Court.

According to the National Fitness Campaigns website, 14 of Michigan’s 83 counties currently have fitness courts.

Nearby properties are in Lincoln Park, Dearborn Heights, River Rouge, and Brownstown Township. Some are ongoing in Ecorse.
