Career Treks: Ah, the places you go!
We love field trips! Only Hyatt focuses on industry networking and careers, rather than skipping lunch or a buddy system. Our Career Treks are interactive visits to Boston-area companies where students meet with employers and Brandeis alumni and gain insight into the work life and culture of a particular company or industry. And sometimes, yes, we get there by school bus!
This fall, Career Trek visited offices in the life sciences, internet software development, and e-commerce industries, providing students with valuable insights and connections to guide their career paths.
Some of the places we traveled this fall:
chewy
Two people step into online pet supplies retailer Chewy’s Boston hub for a career campus trek! Brandeis students will be treated to a tour by Chewy’s team members and an introduction to the company’s mission, culture, and careers. I received a presentation about the opportunity.
In addition to learning about the company, representatives shared insight into how they screen resumes and what they’re looking for. As Hiatt suggests, a resume is a marketing tool that allows you to share what you have to offer, what makes you stand out, and what relevant skills, education, and work accomplishments support your claims.
Repligen Co., Ltd.
Boston is the city with the most healthcare and life sciences jobs in the Northeast. This means that at Brandeis, we are fortunate to have many life sciences companies of all sizes right in our backyard.
Repligen Corporation, a life sciences company focused on bioprocessing, welcomed us to their headquarters in Waltham. In addition to the tour, students majoring in related fields enjoyed panel discussions and question-and-answer sessions with executives.
wayfair
During the trek to Wayfair headquarters in Boston, the students felt right at home. Led by Wayfair’s recruiting team, the day included office tours, information sessions with new team members, a panel discussion, and Q&A.
Brandeis alumni featured on the panel were: Zhengxin Bao MA ’18, Eric D’Aguanno ’22, George Velonias ’17, Young Wang ’24, and Ashley Zhang MS’22.
zoom info
As part of Brandeis’ “Tech Week,” a career trek to ZoomInfo here in Waltham provided students with the opportunity to connect with major local employers in the software and data fields. Team members shared insights about the organization and career paths.
Brandeis graduates can be found in all types of careers and industries. Chelsi Hu ’17, a software engineer at ZoomInfo, welcomed the students and shared her insights.
