Kamala Harris and Barack Obama share stage for the first time at Georgia rally – videoShare

Bruce Springsteen has warned that Donald Trump could become a “tyrant” and called on voters to support Kamala Harris for president.

“I want a president who respects the Constitution, who wants to protect and guide our great democracy rather than threaten it, who believes in the rule of law and the peaceful transfer of power, and who stands up for a woman’s right to choose.” We want to build a middle-class economy that serves all Americans,” Springsteen said at a rally Thursday night.

The Democratic candidate’s campaign said the rally at James R. Hallford Stadium in Clarkston, Georgia, drew about 20,000 people, compared to the 17,000 gathered by Harris in Greensboro, North Carolina, in early September. It will be his largest political rally ever.

“There’s only one candidate in this election who embraces these principles: Kamala Harris. She’s running to be the 47th President of the United States.”

The Born in the USA singer is one of many celebrities to fall for Harris. Directors Spike Lee and Tyler Perry and actor Samuel L. Jackson were also in attendance.

Opening overview

good morning. Welcome to the US Election Live Blog. I’m Tom Ambrose. We’ll bring you all the latest updates on the campaign over the next few hours.

We’ll start with the news that Vice President Kamala Harris will appear for the first time with Barack Obama to deliver closing arguments aimed at black voters in Georgia’s vibrant and iconic eastern suburbs of Atlanta.

“Our fight is a fight for the future,” Harris said at a rally in Clarkston. She touched on familiar topics: reducing the cost of medicine, housing, and food. “I come from a middle-class background, but I never forget where I come from.

Harris said she believes “health care should be a right, not just a privilege for those who can afford it,” and President Trump will water down the Affordable Care Act and eliminate the $35 cap on insulin. He said he would.

The Democratic candidate also recently reaffirmed his support for abortion rights, citing the death of Amber Nicole Thurman, a Georgia woman who was found to have died as a result of the state’s abortion ban. “Donald Trump continues to refuse to acknowledge the pain and suffering he has caused…Women are being denied care during miscarriages,” Harris said.

For more information on the rally, read George Chidi’s full report here.

Meanwhile, in other news:

The family of Amber Nicole Thurman, a 28-year-old black mother who died just weeks after Georgia’s abortion ban went into effect, also attended Harris’ rally. Harris is expected to make another high-profile appearance in Houston today with Beyoncé, as the vice president hopes to rally support for Senate candidate Colin Allred.

Donald Trump rallied his supporters in Tempe, Arizona, speaking alongside Senate candidate Kari Lake. Earlier in the day, President Trump made news by vowing that, if elected, he would immediately fire Justice Department Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is accused of plotting to overturn the 2020 election and conceal classified documents. It became.

President Trump has called the country a “trash” because of the Biden administration’s immigration policies. “We’re like a trash can. That’s the first time I’ve ever said that,” Trump said from Tempe, home of Arizona State University. “And every time I come here and talk about what they’ve done to our country, I get angry. I never said trash, but look, that’s a very accurate description. ”

Phoenix police arrested a man on suspicion of setting a mailbox on fire and damaging mail-in ballots. The news comes days after Tempe police arrested another man in connection with three shootings at Democratic Party campaign offices in Tempe. Arizona prosecutors said the second man had more than 120 guns and more than 250,000 rounds of ammunition in his home, leading law enforcement to suspect he was planning a mass casualty attack. He said he thinks there is.

Harris received the support of two Republicans, one a former congressman from Michigan and the other the mayor of a key county in Wisconsin.

Joe Biden has announced that he will apologize for the U.S. government’s role in forcing thousands of Native American children to attend Indian boarding schools. This policy is widely recognized as an element of genocide. The news comes after Harris was trailing in polls in Arizona, where Biden famously won in 2020, largely due to support from Native American voters.

More than 29 million people have already voted in the 2024 election, at least in part due to the Republican Party’s push to embrace early voting at the direction of President Donald Trump. So far, Republicans have cast 32% of the votes, up from 27% at this point in 2020. Meanwhile, Democrats received 42% of the vote, down from 47% at this point in the last presidential election.
