Although it is difficult to excel in both sports and studies, embarking on a dual career has also been proven to help student-athletes succeed in both fields. Find out more.

FISU is about to launch a series of webinars/seminars on dual careers. These events aim to better understand dual career issues and challenges and foster exchanges between student-athletes, universities, the National University Sports Federation (NUSF) and academic researchers.

The first webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, 2024 from 13:30 to 15:00 (CET).

Speakers participating in this first dual-career webinar are Andreas Küttel, Louis van Zyl, and Samin Abedkhojasteh.

Andreas Küttel is an assistant professor in the Department of Sport Science and Clinical Biomechanics at the University of Southern Denmark. As a former professional ski jumper and having competed in several Olympic Games, he has experience in developing sports talent at the highest level. Currently, he combines research, teaching and applied activities in the field of elite sports. His main research areas include elite athlete careers and transitions, athlete dual careers, and athlete mental health and well-being.

Louis van Zyl is a lecturer and sports practice coordinator at the Faculty of Education, University of Pretoria. He is a three-time Olympian in the 400m hurdles and has represented South Africa in various prestigious competitions since 2001, gaining considerable experience in the transition to senior and elite sport. His main research areas cover athlete performance pathways and dual career experiences.

Samin Abedhojaste holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Payame-Nur University (Iran) and a Master’s degree from the International Academy of Sport Science and Technology (AISTS – Switzerland). She has over 10 years of international experience as a professional badminton player and a successful career as an entrepreneur. Combining expertise in psychology, coaching, project management, and digital marketing, he has helped many athletes build their personal brands through social media and influencer marketing.
