VFX Editorial Assistant Ryan Harvey ’20 will be speaking on “How to Start a Career in the Film Industry” on Tuesday, October 29th from noon to 1pm as part of our new Industry Insights webinar series. Harvey is a communications major with a minor in film studies and has worked in post-production on Marvel Studios films such as “The Marvels” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
The Industry Insights series was launched in October of this year as a collaboration between the SSU Alumni Association and Career Center.
“Our goal is to have a meaningful space for alumni and students to learn about a variety of careers and opportunities, and for alumni to share how their time at Sonoma State University shaped their professional journeys. ,” said Tiffany O’Neill, assistant vice chancellor. Alumni relations and involvement with the university.
“This series provides an easy way for students to learn about career options and exciting industries. This program allows students to explore careers and other possibilities they never thought of.” said Career Center Coordinator Becky Sandoval Young.
Tyler Osberg-Head, a 2012 graduate majoring in business administration with a concentration in wine business strategy, was the first graduate to participate in the program.
Currently working with Martin Ray Vineyards & Winery, Osberghead manages the company’s hospitality and brand engagement.
“Having the opportunity to connect with current SSU students and share my story was extremely rewarding,” he said.
Looking back on his time as a Seawolf, Osberghead said he loved his time as a student at SSU, adding, “Despite the stress and overall pressure, life after college was better than I expected.” spoke.
“It is important to remember that each student’s journey and transition to graduation and life after college is different. There is no template or procedure that is the same for everyone. “It’s my first job after that,” he said. Graduation doesn’t have to be a forever career. If it doesn’t suit you, you can change your mind and decide what suits you. ”
Whether Sonoma State graduates are on campus or on the other side of the world, the alumni association is committed to supporting the learning process and building a supportive community, O’Neill said.
