History DETROIT – The Michigan Technological University volleyball team lost 3-0 to Wayne State University on Friday night. The Warriors won the only regular season matchup 25-17, 25-18, 25-22.

“That performance was a huge disappointment, plain and simple,” Tech coach Matt Jennings said. “I think Meg and Casey were ready to play, but the rest of the guys weren’t. We need to be better tomorrow.”

WSU (9-10, 6-3 GLIAC) jumped out to a six-point lead early and never looked back. Meg Rabe had four kills, but the Huskies couldn’t overcome a 15-7 kill advantage by the home team.

After tying the game early in the second, the Warriors went on an 11-3 run to take the lead and never looked back. Meg Rabe had seven kills in the second, but the home team spread the attack among six players with at least two kills, taking a 2-0 lead at the break.

The team battled through nine ties and four lead changes in the third game. The Huskies led 10-8, 16-14 before Wayne State tied the game at 17 points. The home team finished the game on a 9-2 run. Kayla Giroux converted set point and the Huskies ended the game on an offensive error.

Meg Raabe had a match-high 16 kills. Casey Miners had five kills and four blocks. Rachel Zurek also added four blocks. Tess Hayes set up the offense with 28 assists, and Bryn Erickson had 11 goals.

Tech is 11-8 overall and 5-4 in the GLIAC and concludes its road trip Saturday at No. 13 Grand Valley State at 2 p.m. On Friday, the Lakers defeated Northern Michigan 3-0.
